This 16” Valdres bowl was painted using JoSonja acrylics in 2006. The bowl comes from “Turn of the Century”, but the design could be easily painted on a plate.
These flowers are painted in the style of Peder Aadnes (1739-1792). He was from Sondre Land and traveled and painted throughout southeastern Norway, therefore influencing other painters in a large area. He studied in Europe and with Edward Munch. I love the flowers he painted in the Bagn church, and this is the style represented there. Often in Valdres and other eastern districts you see ribbons and ropes cascading around the top of walls with flowers. That’s why I wanted to paint the border with that kind of feeling.
The packet includes four pages of instructions, three enlarged photographs and the line drawing. Use worksheets in “Rosemaling Styles, Study and Design” or the Worksheet Packet for reference.
