This Telemark mangle board has a horse handle as was often used in Norway. The mangle board was used in the old days for ironing and became a traditional betrothal gift. Many can be seen in the museums, some plain, carved, wood burned and painted. They are a unique item for painting and are an welcome addition to a narrow wall or beside the front door.
I painted this one in a more contemporary style using metallics with the basic palette. On the black background it is very elegant.
The wood pieces is 24 inches long.
