This 16” Telemark bowl was painted using JoSonja acrylics in 2006. The bowl comes from “Turn of the Century”, but the design could easily be painted on a plate.
In the Telemark area rosemaling was the most prolific and advanced in Norway. There were numerous very fine and skilled painters. The intertwining of scrolls and elegant flowers in asymmetrical designs are graceful and wonderful to look at as well as paint.
I used Pearl White, Silver and Rich Gold in the otherwise traditional palette to dress up the design. You can substitute Smoked Pearl and use Raw Sienna in place of Rich Gold for the traditional palette. Use worksheets in “Rosemaling Styles, Study and Design” for a reference.
The packet includes three pages of instruction, three enlarged photographs and the line drawing.
