This Chippendale tray was painted in 1998 in the Telemark style using JoSonja acrylics. The tray I designed it out of wood, similar to metal trays. It measures 15 3/4” x 10” x 1 1/8”.
The Telemark area is in the mountains of southern Norway. It was culturally rich in music, dance, woodcarving, weaving and rosemaling. It surpasses other areas in its development, especially as seen in the numbers of talented rosemalers. Knute Mevesstaul (1785-1862) is one of my favorites and whose style has continued to keep my interest.
I used a basic rosemaling palette of red, green and yellow on this black green background. You can substitute blue for green if you wish to change the palette colors.
The packet includes three pages of instruction, two enlarged photographs and the line drawing.
