Borgund Stave Church Pattern Packet

The Borgund stave church was painted in 2007 using JoSonja acrylics on a 12” plate.  It is also included in my 2007 publication, “Rosemaling Styles, Study and Design” which is out of print but available on DVD.

The Borgund stave church is located in Sogn og Fjordane in western Norway.  It is very spectacular sitting in the narrow valley on a hill in the country.  This view I photographed by climbing up a hill, so you can see what a narrow valley it is.  The structure and carving illustrates the old beliefs and style from the west.

The painting in Sogn og Fjordane was much more primitive with simple designs taken from embroidery, chip carving and wood burning.  I wanted to keep the border more in style with this area and the church.

The packet includes three pages of instruction, 2 enlarged photographs and the line drawing.
