The Lesja stave church was painted in 1998 on a 10” scalloped plate.
Located in the northern Gudbrandsdal valley this wonderful stave church sits proudly on a hill with a valley below and a distant mountain range behind. Many of the churches in the area look similar because they probably had the same architect. The inside has painting and carving by the famous wood carver, Jacob Klukstad (1713-1773). The beautifully monochromatically painted acanthus leaves have different kinds of animals depicted on each wainscot panel. Therefore I had to use that style to paint on the border of this plate.
The packet includes five pages of instruction using JoSonja acrylics, two photographs and the line drawing.
